because the current owners' parents and my parents were the

Historical
Society of the Town of Warwick - PO Box 353 - Warwick, 10990
- (845)986-3236 - Organized in 1906, it is one of the largest
historical societies in the state. It presently has more than
500 members and owns five architecturally significant old
buildings and a railroad caboose.
One of the Society's
most ambitious undertakings was the drive to obtain Historic
district designation for the core area of the Village of
Warwick. This was achieved in 1984 after ten years of
painstaking work, and resulted in Warwick being listed in both
NY State and National Register of Historic Places.
The properties that
the Society owns and maintains are:

1810 House
- 80 Main Street. This early 19th century saltbox cottage
houses a wealth of memorabilia of early Warwick, as well as a
collection of fine antique furniture and furnishings.
Particularly interesting is the extensive collection of
mementos of Frank Forester, famous author and sportsman of the
mid - 1800s.

Old School
Baptist Meeting House - High and Church Streets. Built in
1810, this imposing structure crowns a hill just above Lewis
Park on Main Street in the Village of Warwick. Both the
interior and exterior of the Meeting House present an
exceptionally pleasing appearance. Its wine-glass pulpit and
barrel ceiling are outstanding features. It is still used on
occasion for Society sponsored activities.

Zacariah
Ketchum House - 26 Church Street. One of the oldest
original houses in the Village of Warwick., it is believed to
have been the home of the Meeting House's builder. This
attractive structure - with its handsomely carved pilaster
doorway and fireplace mantels - underwent painstaking
restoration and renovation in 1978.

The Barn -
Build about 1825, this typical rural structure houses a
splendid collection of early tools, farm implements,
appliances, horse drawn sleighs and carriages, etc.

The Shingle
House, 1810 House, Ketchum House and the Barn are open to
the public Tuesdays and Saturdays from 2-4:30 during July and
August, or by appointment.

HIKING

Appalachian
Trail - only 1 mile from the Apple Valley Inn, walk the
new boardwalk section of the AT that takes you through a
previously impassable section of the trail. Hikers, both
through and section, have long been welcome guests at the
Apple Valley Inn and have found it an inviting and comforting
place to take shelter and recuperate from the challenges
encountered along their journey. Hikers with special needs or
requests (meals, shuttle service...etc) should call the Inn
and whenever possible we
will do our best to accommodate you.

Highpoint State
Park - The view from High Point Monument, at 1,803 feet
above sea level, is a spectacular panorama of rich farmland
and forest, soft hills and lush valleys in three states. The
blue line of the Delaware River divides the verdant ridges of
New Jersey from those of Pennsylvania. High Point offers
superb trails for hikers and skiers and quiet spots for
campers and anglers.
