The history
of this mill site can be traced to 1773 when the King of England
granted the land to the Earl of Perth. In 1794 Stephen Bailey bought
the property. The first mill on the site (upstream) was said to have
been burned during Moody's Indian Raids. The Mill is near a site
where Indians ground their corn in a glacial pothole. The second
mill located at the current site was struck by lightning in 1804.

The current structure was rebuilt on that foundation in 1805 and
renovated during 1888. The mill served the surrounding communities
until it ceased operations at the end of World War I. Some of the
original equipment is still found in the Mill.
